Series: The Morning Show

Summary: A TV station called UBA, broadcasts a morning talk show called The Morning Show (TMS) hosted by Alex (Jennifer Aniston) and Mitch (Steve Carell - yes, Gru voice in Despicable me haks!). The beginning of the story showed that Mitch was fired because he was being accused for sexual harassment in his workplace, which was UBA. This was shocking news because he and Alex had worked in TMS for 15 years. The story then continued with miserable scenes in the station. And by the way, at this particular time, the sexual harassment cases were so hot in US because of the #MeToo movement that raised the voice of the sexual harassment victims.
While at the other stories, there was one bold reporter who reported about mine news and was fired because of her bad attitude during delivering her reports, recorded by the public, and went viral. She was Bradley (Reese Witherspoon). Because of the viral video, she was being invited as a guest in TMS and unexpectedly being offered as a correspondent in UBA by Cory (Billy Crudup). Cory was the Head of News in UBA which also handled TMS. He was new there, so a lot of staff didn't like him because he kinda has this entertainment vibe - and the news is not entertainment - they claimed!
Unfortunately, as Bradley was an uninvited guest for TMS because of her loud voice so she didn't get the correspondent job. But Cory still wanted her to work in TMS, so he invited her for a journalist award. I know this sounds sooooo complicated so long story short, she was announced to be a co-host in TMS, replacing Mitch.
During her time in TMS, she made a lot of changes to this traditional boring talk show. Because she really likes the truth in reporting news, she cooperated with Charlie (Mark Duplas), the producer of the show to make the show better. While a lot of news covered by TMS with the new co-host, Alex (which actually the spotlight in this show, oops), had problems with her marriage and work-life balance.
Mitch, on the other hand, contacted Bradley to cover his news because he was thinking that he was also a victim. He wanted to drag down the board because the board was covering his crimes. While these plans had out, there were two separate groups plotting against each other. One group wanted to save their asses and one group wanted to hold the truth. The climax in this series was really quick, with every scene that they tried to bring you to the meaning of the next scenes. Everything and everyone in this drama were just in the right place. And so, if you want to know the whole scene, yeah watch this whole series, only 10 episodes on Apple tv+.
Opinion: This series was based on the recent case of Weinstein, the commencement of #MeToo movement. He was a sexual abuser and harasser while he was holding power in production companies. He took advantage of these young actresses that work with him and threatened to ruin their careers if they reported about his wrongdoings. After years, his hideous act was caught and he was convicted for the crime. I really recommended the Untouchable documentary that discovered Weinstein crimes.
This series is a heavy story for me. It tells us about women’s rights, the silence culture in the workplace, abuse and harassment of women, corruption, and all these gruesome acts in the corporate sector just to save their own pockets. This story is about women who raise for women, yeah women empowerment, and also how we can fight for this unhealthy culture in the future. These things are taboo and we have to talk about this, so our next generation will not face the same things.
The rise of #MeToo movement has woken up a lot of women from all industries to be brave to talk about this. Taylor Swift shared her experience to be one of the victims and she spoke up during the election - to vote for the Women Act! I know this may sound feminist but the ground of this movement is to get back human power and rights.
Even though this series is quite heavy, I salute the producers and the scriptwriters to write this story very well. There are no unnecessary stories (seriously!) and so precise. It was based on true stories and relatable to all levels. It covers the core of destructive corporations and how these abusers cover their crimes. If you enjoy watching true stories and heavy movies, I really recommend this. We are waiting for season two and so excited to watch it.
This series really open up my eyes and mind to dig into the feminist issues, corporations’ corruption, and surely sexual harassment cases that occurred in my own countries. If everyone has changed, we also have to move together! The ending of this series will not make you down and you will release from this burden, yes to have felt it too. I spent two days just finishing this series, and I can guarantee you that it worth every second of your time.
